Knack Craft Christmas Market -time tbc
Friday 22nd (evening) / Saturday 23rd November - Knack Craft / Xmas market
Parent Info Evening with guest speaker Jan Gaffney
Our special guest speaker will be Jan Gaffney, a dedicated Montessori practitioner and a passionate advocate of the Montessori philosophy and the power it has to change lives. She believes that…
Children and adolescents need an optimal environment in which to grow and develop. Tomorrow’s world desperately needs flexible, thinking, compassionate, inclusive adults with drive, initiative, and the desire to contribute to their varied communities – on a local, national, and global scale. All children need an education that actively encourages and supports them to develop in such a way that these attributes form an integral part of their life. I wish to be a part of transforming the current system into one in which all children can thrive and shine.
Background
Jan has been involved in Montessori Education for over 30 years as a parent, class teacher, school principal and consultant. She has her BA and MA in Education, the NAMTA Orientation to Adolescence and AMI Diplomas for 3-6 and 6-12 levels. In 2000, Jan helped to establish the Montessori unit at Berhampore School. She managed the initial growth of the unit and integration into the wider school. From 2006-2014, Jan was elected as a Council member / President of the Montessori Association of New Zealand (MANZ). In 2009, in her role as principal of Wā Ora Montessori School, Jan established the adolescent programme which eventually grew into a high school. Several years later she joined Montessori School Bali and worked to establish a toddler programme and rebuild their adolescent program. In 2022, Jan was a trainer-in-training on Sydney Montessori’s Training Centre for AMI 12-18 Diploma (Perth) and she’s regularly part of their workshop programme. Currently she lives in Taiwan, establishing a new adolescent community.
Jan Gaffney is an interesting and well-respected speaker in the field of education, and with her huge breadth of experience and knowledge. I encourage parents not to miss this opportunity to hear her speak.

CANCELLED
This is a great opportunity to showcase and sample some delicious kai from the diverse cultures that make up our school community, as well as raise money for our school.
To make the World Food Fair a success we need donations of cooked food and desserts - so if you have a family favourite or a delicious dish from your culture that you are willing to share, we would love to hear from you. We also need a lot of helpers for set up, serving and pack up.
A paper form will come home shortly that can be returned to school, to show where you can help. But if you know that you can contribute in one of these ways, we'd love it if you emailed us now:
Cooking or providing a dish (main, side, salad or dessert)
Donating towards ingredients/supplies - you can buy a supermarket voucher or donate money via kindo or the office
Volunteering your time on the Friday afternoon/evening
Each food donation will go into the draw to win a Moore Wilson’s prize pack!

Term 3 - Week 2: Montessori Education for Years 7 & 8 – Info. Evening
Location: Tui 2
Childhood is not static…it’s a series of stages because year by year, children grow and change, so it makes sense that we should be thoughtful about the type of education that we offer them.
On Thursday evening, we will be presenting a Montessori perspective and explaining both the senior class programme and our aspirations for it.
If you would like to learn more, please join us… the evening is open to everyone with an interest in Montessori education, but it will be of particular interest to parents of Years 6, 7, 8 students.
Please R.S.V.P. before Thursday.
Berhampore School's Health Consultation Evening
On Wednesday 24th July at 6.00pm we have a Health Education meeting to seek feedback on our Draft Health Education Statement and Delivery Plan and to provide information about the Navigating the Journey health programme that will be taught in term 4. This is an opportunity for you to provide feedback and learn more about our Health Education programme.
In the email we shared the draft statement and guidelines along with a survey (link in email) in relation to this document, as well as a parent overview for the Navigating the Journey programme. We will have resources available for you to view on the night and you can access the Navigating the Journey teacher resources through the Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa website but please be aware that this is a teacher resource that may be adapted by classroom teachers to suit the needs of each class.
Term 2 - Week 10: PPMET
PPMET Trustees are committed to ensuring a Montessori education of the highest quality. They represent the interests of both current and future families of the unit and take a broad responsibility for all Trust activities through collective decision making. Trustees are co-opted on a skills basis from the Montessori at Berhampore parent community. Roles are served for a three-year term and advertised as vacancies become available.
Parents are invited to approach the Trust if they want to contribute and have skills applicable to the Trust’s functions. The Trust meets regularly throughout the school year – normally twice per term or as needs arise. If you wish to attend a PPMET meeting, please email your interest to montessori@berhampore.school.nz
The Trust welcomes feedback from the Montessori community and encourages parents to come forward with suggestions, queries or concerns. Please note that PPMET is not a governance body – Berhampore Board of Trustees assumes this role for the whole school, which includes the Montessori classrooms. An elected member of PPMET represents the interests of Montessori at Berhampore on the Berhampore Board of Trustees. Details of PPMET’s status are available online on the Charities Commission website http://charities.govt.nz. If you have any questions about the Berhampore Board of Trustees, please let us know.
